The general consensus of the iPhoneWriter.com team is that this is not true. Sure, it's possible and a quick check of the Apple Store website on Thursday morning should say for sure, but without a named source or an actual press announcement from Apple, it's hard to think that the story is true.
Either way, knowing our addiction for mobile activity and all things Apple, the iPhoneWriter.com team is holding out for the 3G enabled version, so that we can be web enabled wherever we may roam.
