At iPhoneWriter.com, we enjoy the Genius feature that Apple recently included with iTunes and the iPhone/iPod Touch. It’s especially nice to have in the car, to produce random (but related) playlists while driving around. However, a recent attempt to create a Genius Playlist on our Apple iPhone resulted in an interesting error message: “Try Again. This song does not have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist.”
Really? AC/DC is one of the biggest rock bands ever, with numerous rock anthems to their credit and millions of fans worldwide. Not enough songs related to create a Genius Playlist? This is extremely hard to believe.
One cannot help but wonder if this is really a reaction to the band’s recent decision to distribute their most recent release exclusively through Wal-Mart stores, thereby bypassing iTunes and the associated revenue for Apple. In fact, a quick search of the iTunes Music Store reveals no AC/DC music at all. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is more about dollars than songs.
